You know how they say the kitchen is the heart of the home? That couldn't be more true at our house. My husband and I love to cook together and try new things. We have a very open floor plan, so even if you in the living or dining room you aren't far from the smell of good food or if you are the one doing the cooking, you are still able to chat with family members or guests. This is one of the main reasons we bought the home we did. I love opening our home up to others and practicing the art of hospitality. We regularly have friends over for dinner or just desert and we have a small group that takes turns hosting a potluck meal in someone's home each weekend.

What makes a kitchen great, what draws people in? The food! I was recently given the opportunity to review tortillas from MexAmerica, America's Tastiest. We love Mexican food in this house, as you may remember from my recent salsa giveaway and we like it hot! We were excited to put together some new dishes and old favorites to try with these tortillas. The first day we got the tortillas we had tortillas at every meal! Here is a list of what we received to review:

6" White Flour Tortillas
6" White Corn Soft Tortillas
8" White Flour Tortillas
8" Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas
10" White Flour Tortillas
10" 100% Whole Wheat W/Honey
10" Garlic and Herb Flour Tortillas

The first day we had egg, sausage, cheese, and hash-browns wrapped in a Whole Wheat W/Honey tortilla. I love the combination of sweet and savory at breakfast time. The tortilla was thin which I liked because when we use white flour tortillas, I feel like I get to much tortilla and not enough filling in the first few bites and the last. Despite being thinner than a regular flour tortilla it had no problem holding all the fillings without falling apart. For lunch we had chicken and cheese quesadillas using the 8" Whole Wheat tortillas. This kept lunch light and healthy and was quite enjoyable. For dinner we had fish tacos and we used both the 6" White Flour and 6" Corn tortillas. Usually we have trouble when we make fish tacos with the corn tortillas falling apart because we don't fry them oil. The juice can cause them to break apart as you eat them. This was by far the best brand we have tried for tacos this way. We had fewer occurrences of loss of filling. We found with this recipe we actually preferred the taste of the flour tortillas with them. They were excellent.

Hospitality is very important to us. We believe if you have the means to give, then by all means! WE loving have friends over so we decided to host a 4th of July party and make it a fajita night since we had all these great tortillas to share. It was a huge hit. The 6" flour tortillas were the perfect size for kids and many of the adult appreciated having a choice between 8" White or 8" Whole Wheat Flour tortillas. Sand-which wraps taste great in the flavored tortillas like the Garlic & Herb we were sent. They also have Tomato Basil and Spinach Pesto wraps. I'd love to try a Mediterranean style wrap in one of those. I will most definitely be seeking out this brand in future trips to the grocery store!
